Who We Are

KATY.JPG

Katy van Greunen

Director & Writer

My name is Catherine van Greunen but everyone calls me Katy. I am the director and writer of ‘A Perfect Storm’. The reason I love filmmaking so much is because of the impact that a film can have and how it can make an audience feel. When I was younger my family used to live in a village in Tanzania. The nearest school was 7 hours away and we had to drive that every week. So to pass the time I would watch movies. I was amazed how those 7 hours turned into nothing because of the films I watched. I often had to rewatch movies because it was hard to get new ones and that’s when I started to analyze them and how they made me feel. I was 8 at that time and I’ve been fascinated with films ever since. I believe I am an asset because I can often take a step back and realize when my idea won't work and someone else’s is better. Before coming to film school I wanted to be an actor, which gave me insight into what actor's processes are and what they have to go through to create their character. Therefore I can help the actors reach their goals and be their eyes behind the camera.
